Essay text: Tomorrow Begins Today with our new exploration, new attitude, new priorities in tune with emerging new patterns of living --- I think of clothing as a "container" for the body. The body is part of the whole environmental design of our communities and its clothing must contain the body with comfort, function and pleasure --- If our streets continue dirty and crowded --- if air is grey with smog --- if transportation deteriorates --- the way we clothe ourselves must work within that situation --- Part of that "working" should be an element of humor and insouciance ie" (light-hearted unconcern) in order to neutralize that we humans have wrought --- I see the body-container for daytime activities as a simple enveloping shape which in mild weather is worn sans leg covering except for perhaps tights --- I've made it of available moisture-proof cotton altho I'd love to develop a future fabric which chemically will insulate the body against heat or cold --- The color is bright, visible, and unafraid --- A stack of pockets zip securely --- Under this I's like a cotton funnel-neck long pull --- A big soft pouchy Cashin-Carry also serves as an effective billy stick as I skate off in daily rounds --- the skate is great transportation besides awfully good exercise --- Bonnie Cashin Essay about clothing as a container for the body.
