Knight's inscription: "To Walter Gordon, with kindest regards. Governor Goodwin J. Knight."
Walter L. Gordon, Jr.'s inscription: "Always called me '[illegible] Taylor' - always asked about Charlie Matthews, whose indifference caused Goodwin Knight to appoint David Williams to Municipal Court when originally he preferred Charles Matthews. Matthews was by nature arrogant and distant. Williams then went on to [illegible] a Federal judge."
