Women and children gather in support of the United Mill, Mine, and Smelter Workers Union. 1000 union workers walked out of the San Jacinto Tunnel project, part of the Colorado River Aqueduct, on August 15, 1937. The women and children assisted the protesting workers in continuing to strike. The workers had requested that Mine, Mill and Smelter be the sole bargaining agent for all tunnel construction workers. Approximately 500 non-union workers continued to operate essential maintenence and machinery for the tunnel project. Circa August 16, 1937.
