Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Walkway enclosed by a pergola built from stone piers supporting wooden poles in La Mortola botanical garden. Wisteria sinensis (Chinese Wisteria) grows on the pergola. Clivia, a colorful flowering plant, and Nemophila insignis, a blue flowering plant, grow on the wall next to the path. The Giardini Botanici Hanbury (also known as La Mortola, or Hanbury Botanical Garden, or Villa Hanbury), on the cape of Mortola, are major botanical gardens operated by the University of Genoa. The gardens were founded by Sir Thomas Hanbury, a British entrepreneur, after he had made his fortune in China.
