Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Battlements (crenelations) and conical towers in the fortified French town of Carcassonne. The town was officially founded in the fifth century but the settlement was fortified by the Romans even earlier. Structures include fifty-three towers and a double ring of ramparts around the outskirts of the town. Text from nitrate negative sleeve: Carcasonne 1929
