This photograph was taken for an article by Neeta Marquis, "True Spirit of Art Found in City," that appeared in the Los Angeles Times on July 3, 1927 Text from nitrate negative sleeve: 2358 - 2359 - 2360 Art Studios, Los Angeles Latin Qtr, Noted Los Angeles Painters, 1927. Otis Williams, noted painter-Sculptor-Photographer with head of Boy. The Silsbys - 310 N Grand St, JM Cannon, Ruth Alexander This biography from the Archives of AskART: Born in England on April 9, 1862. Cannon was educated in London and worked there as a designer for gold and silversmiths. He worked in NYC for several years before settling in Los Angeles about 1906. In 1912 he established the Cannon Art School in Los Angeles and taught there until 1933. He died in Redondo Beach, CA on Feb. 5, 1939. Member: Commercial Artists Ass'n of So. Calif.; Free Lance Art League of LA (co-founder and vice pres., 1918). The Lyceum Theater was located at 227 S. Spring Street; it was demolished in 1941 William Henry Cannon, in his studio in the Lyceum Theater building, wearing smock, holding portrait on table, with other paintings, some nudes, some floral, on table and on wall behind Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds.
