From left to right, Ralph Shawhan and Les Heilman of the U.S.C. Trojans cross the finish line in the mile-run, inches apart. At center, Shawhan is a close second. He strides towards the finish line and the camera with both arms in the air. To the right, Heilman faces towards the right as his torso contacts the finish line's tape. Behind and to the right of him, meet officials stand on the field beside the finish line. Farther down the track, at left, hurdles line the infield. More officials are visible in the distance at center and the stadium's stands stretch across the background.
