A runway at the Grand Central Air Terminal stretches across the foreground. In the near distance, the TWA aircraft, City of Los Angeles, sits in front of the terminal, off-center to the left. It is viewed from its starboard side and faces right. Along the back end of the fuselage, it reads, "TWA." The aircraft's registration number, "NC 223Y," is visible on the aircraft's tail and on top of its wing. Beyond the plane, the Grand Central Airport's terminal enters frame at right and stretches back on an angle to the left. Its tower rises, left-of-center, behind the aircraft. A large crowd, platform and empty chairs occupy the space on the ground that extends between the aircraft and the terminal.
A different photograph of the same event appears with the article, "GIANT AIRLINER IN DEBUT: City of Los Angeles Dashes to Bay City on First Run After Christening Ceremonies," Los Angeles Times, 27 Nov. 1933: A1
A photograph of Barbara Douglas christening the same aircraft appears with the caption, "Daughter of Ship's Builder Dedicating It Barbara Dean [sic] Douglas, 9-year-old daughter of Donald Douglas, builder of ship, christening City of Los Angeles at public dedication ceremonies yesterday at Grand Central air terminal," Los Angeles Times, 27 Nov. 1933: A2
