Bobbi Trout, left, and Gladys O'Donnell, right, in aviator uniforms pose for a photo in front of a monoplane.
Trout and O'Donnell both participated in the inaugural Women's Air Derby from Santa Monica to Cleveland in August, 1929. O'Donnell came in second place while Trout arrived last due to engine trouble. This photograph was either taken on the day of the derby race, before take-off, or shortly before.
