Different photographs of Helen Wendel Hannah, Frederick Wendel and Lorene Wendel Johnson taken on the same occasion appear with the article, "Passport Prized by Heirs Apparent; Book May Be Key To Riches." Los Angeles Times, 23 Apr. 1932: A1.
The siblings, along with their mother Anna Wendel, filed claims for a share of the multi-million fortune of New York recluse Ella Wendel, who died in 1931. She was the last of eight siblings, none of whom ever married, and when she died she left her family estate to various charities. These Wendels, possessing documents linking them to the family tree of the New York Wendels were among 2,303 claims filed to gain a portion of the estate.
