Dr. Ray Lyman Wilbur, U.S. Secretary of the Interior (1929-1933), and president of Stanford University, stands behind a radio microphone at a banquet. It is possible this photograph was taken at the Biltmore Hotel during an event sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club, to celebrate a procurement of a $490 million loan for the Metropolitan Water District to build the Colorado Aqueduct. John Bullock, seated next to Wilbur, was honored at the event. Wilbur's speech at this event was broadcast on KFWB radio.
Possibly related to Los Angeles Times article, "Loan Deal Welcomed By Wilbur; Secretary Says Speeding Up of Aqueduct Provides Outlet for Dam Power." 21 Sep. 1932: A1.
Handwritten on negative: Dr. Ray Lyman Wilbur, W. A. Simpson, John Bullock, Henry Wright.
