Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. German track star Otto Peltzer practices starts on the track at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. A different photograph of Otto Peltzer taken on the same occasion appears with the photo caption, "Coming and Going; two views of the famous German half-miler. Dr. Otto Von Peltzer, who holds the world's record for the distance and has defeated Edvin Wide and Paavo Nurmi over the 1500-meter route.," Los Angeles Times, 12 Jan. 1928: pg. B1. Otto Peltzer, the world record holder at the 880 at the time, was particularly interested in running on the Coliseum track, which he praised as a fast track. Two months after this photograph was taken he ran against local racers and set a new Southern California record. During World War II, Peltzer was imprisoned by the Germans because was gay.
