The Matson Line's new ocean liner Mariposa, part of the Navy's merchant marine component, was welcomed to the Los Angeles Harbor prior to her inaugural voyage to Sydney, Australia. Also present were Lieutenant-Commander James A. Crutchfield (regular Navy) and shipping executive Joseph B. Banning, Jr.
