This photograph appears with the article, "TROJANS DOWN UTAH IN GRID OPENER, 35 TO 0: Battling Utes Hold Foes to Lone Touchdown in First Half but Fall as Game Progresses," Los Angeles Times, 25 Sep. 1932: E1
The camera looks across the Coliseum's field during the 1932 USC and Utah game. A play occurs in the near distance at center. Orv Mohler of USC stumbles to the ground, off-center to the right, as he carries the football. Three Utah players run towards him and the camera, including Captain Frank Christensen at center. Almost every other player is on the ground. USC's Curt Youel appears to be upright on the far left edge of the play. Another USC player, Ray Sparling, lies on the ground to the immediate right of Mohler. Referee Herb Dana maneuvers around downed players on the left side of the play. In the background, crowds fill the stands.
Text from newspaper caption: When the Maddened Mormons Were Mauling Their Foes This photo of Orv Mohler, taken during the opening quarter of yesterday's game, shows how the Utah linemen hounded Troy's ball carriers. Youel, S.C. center, and Referee Dana can be seen at the left, while Mohler is on the ground with the ball. Sparing is to his right while Capt. Christensen of the Utes looms large in the background. Later on th e Trojans were more successful in getting their rivals out of the way. [Times photo by Duke Ledford, Times staff photographer] (Los Angeles Times, 25 Sep. 1932: E1)
