The accompanying negative sleeve notes that this photograph is of the USC and Stanford football game of 1928. However, this photograph appears in a photo spread from the USC and Notre Dame football game of the same year. Also, the marching band in the photograph wears pennies with a shamrock symbol.
The camera sits at about the 35-yard-line and looks across the Coliseum's field during halftime of the USC and Notre Dame football game. The Band of the Fighting Irish stands on the field at left and just in front of the stands. The stadium's stands rise behind the field and stretch across the image. At center, the rooting section depicts a Trojan carrying a flag while riding a warhorse.
