Photograph depicts John Happel on his way to San Quentin prison to serve a life sentence. Deputy Sheriff Crowley is situating Happel's handcuffs. John H. Happel was arrested for the murder of his wife, Rose Marie Happel. The case received attention due to Happel hiding his wife's body in a trunk. He eventually confessed to the murder.
