The version of the photograph that was published in the Los Angeles Times is cropped Prince and Princess Kaya of Japan in their suite at the Ambassador Hotel with a large bouquet on the table beside them. The Prince is in his military uniform. Prince and Princess Kaya undertook a seven-month world tour in 1934, visiting the United States, Great Britain, France, and Germany. The tour received extensive press coverage at the time. Text from negative sleeve: Japan, Princekaya Handwritten on negative: Prince Tsunenori Kaya & Princess Text from newspaper caption for a similar photograph: "City Opens Arms to Japanese Guests: Prince and Princess Tsunenori Kaya of Japan who are on the last lap of a journey around to world and who will sail from here Saturday." Los Angeles Times, 8/29/1934.
