Text from newspaper caption: From these burning love notes written on the ace, deuce, and trey of hearts, Sheriff's officers yesterday learned the motives in the slaying of Dorothy Smith, 19 year-old Monrovia girl who pictured below. Charles Johnston, 22, in the author of the notes and he is in the County Jail, held without bail for the killing. Johnston is shown below.
