King Levinsky has returned to Los Angeles after failing to fight Art Lasky in Chicago due to a nervous breakdown that left him hospitalized for several days. He appears to be in good health, preparing for the rescheduled fight with Lasky on June 12th.
Lena speaks with her brother, King Levinsky (Harris Krakow), while his trainer, Jerry "The Greek" Luvadis puts an arm over King's shoulders, who sits with bandaged hands and a towel draped over his shoulders.
Photograph appears with the article, "King Levinsky Opens Training For Art Lasky," Los Angeles Times, 02 June 1934: A7.
Text from negative sleeve: LEVINSKY, KINGFISH BOXER
Text from newspaper caption: After an absence of three weeks, King Levinsky returned to the fistic limelight yesterday and here's positive proof that he's actually getting ready to fight Art Lasky June 12. The scenes below show the Kingfish at various stages of his training routine. On the far left Jerry (The Greek) Luvadis, trainer and pal of Jack Dempsey, is padding the King's heavy fists before sending him into action. Second from the left is a shot of the roly-poly heavyweight taking his daily dozen. In the center the board of strategy whispers encouragingly to the King as he relaxes after stepping a fast round with Tony Sousa. Crowded around the big fighter are Sam Levinsky (left,) Harold Steinman and Jerry. Second from the right is shown Leaping Lena saying: "King, you're colossal." On, the extreme right is apparently merely an interested spectator watching the King work out, but actually its Judge Hazen, who came all the way from Chicago with Levinsky entourage and who advises Lena and the King as to their every move outside of the gym.
