Danish physician and missionary Dr. Niels Nielson has spent six months being held for ransom of $170, 000 by Chinese bandits. His wife, Kirstine Nielson, received letters for six months demanding the sum, with threats to her husband's life. He was released after $4000 was paid. Dr. Nielsen and his wife sit side-by-side with their hands in their laps, unsmiling.
