Nurmi, center, crosses the finish line after his race against eight runners from the Sherman School’s track team, named the Indians. Some of the 45,000 spectators can be seen in the stands in the background. Text from newspaper caption: World’s Champions; At the top right is seen Nurmi, finally surrounded by the photographers who chased him several miles at the Coliseum yesterday in their efforts to get pictures. In the middle, the Finn is leaving marks with the Sherman Indians. Lower left shows Paavo coasting across the finish line. At the lower right, Bud Houser is heaving the discus for a new world record.
