Sculptor Lorado Taft has chosen one of the hilltops of Griffith Park to plant a museum of sculpture and architecture that will be completed at an estimated cost of $1,000,000. The only two who accompanied him were author Hamlin Garland and directing head of the Los Angeles Museum of Art Clarence B. Mitchell. Similar photograph appears with the article, "Taft Begins 'First Work' On Museum," Los Angeles Times, 10 Feb 1934: A1. Mitchell holds a tripod and camera, looking in the direction that Taft is pointing. Taft and Garland hold a piece of paper and their eyes follow the direction of Taft's outstretched arm.
