According to early reports of the case, Madalyne Obenchain and J. Belton Kennedy arrived late at Kennedy's summer cottage in Beverly Glen. In the darkness, Obenchain asked Kennedy to retrieve a lucky penny she had left nearby and while he was attempting to find it, Arthur Burch shot and killed Kennedy while hidden among brush beside the staircase leading to the cottage. This was never proven however.
Possibly related to the article, "Sunday is Visitor to Burch Cell: Evangelist Saw Suspect when he was Baby; Split in Kennedy Defense Denied." Los Angeles Times, 2 Sep. 1921: 112.
Most likely a baby picture of Arthur Burch, a former lover of Madalynne.
