Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. A different photograph taken on the same occasion with Libbie and Albert Olson appears in "Murder Suspects Released: Bond Posted Pending Second Trial," Los Angeles Times, 21 Dec 1932: A8. On October 8, 1932, Charles H. Scull was shot and killed. Libbie and Albert Olson were accused of murdering Scull over a potentially new will, which would remove the Olsons as primary beneficiaries. While originally found guilty, they appealed and a panel of judges determined the evidence presented was insufficient and ordered a new trial. In January 1933, they were acquitted. The Olsons' clothes in this photograph are the same as those that appear in photographs printed with "New Chance Given in Murder Case," 13 Dec 1932: A8. Accused murderers Libbie and Albert Olson with their second son, Gay Olson (middle). Libbie Olson wears a dark skirt set with light colored wrap top, edged in a dark color. She also wears a veiled hat and dark leather gloves, edged in a light color, and carries a clutch purse. Gay wears a zippered jacket over a button up shirt and tie. Albert wears a three piece suit. Text on negative sleeve: Olson, I. Albert; Murder case 1932 Handwritten on negative: Mrs. Olson, Gay Olson, & Albert Olson
