Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. On October 8, 1932, Charles H. Scull was shot and killed. Libbie and Albert Olson were accused of murdering Scull over a potentially new will, which would remove the Olsons as primary beneficiaries. While originally found guilty, they appealed and a panel of judges determined the evidence presented was insufficient and ordered a new trial. In January 1933, the Olsons were acquitted. The Olsons' clothes in this photograph are the same as those that appear in photographs printed with "New Chance Given in Murder Case," 13 Dec 1932: A8. Libbie and Albert Olson sit at a desk with Ben Silverman. A fireplace is behind the Olsons. A framed portrait and a painting sit on the mantle. A telephone is behind Silverman on an endtable. A deskpad stuffed with papers is on the desk, along with a fountain pen stand and inkpot. Silverman holds a pen and some documents in front of him as he talks to the Olsons. The men wear three piece suits and Libbie Olson wears a dark-colored skirt set with a light-colored wrap top edged in a darker color.
