Possibly related to the article, “San Diego to El Centro Road Reveals Gain, Widening Mountain Springs Grade Brings Results Indicative of Benefit From Good Highway.” Los Angeles Times, 28 Aug. 1927. The article states: "...it adds another link to the paved portion of United States Route No. 80, extending from San Diego to Savannah, Ga...."
The Barbara Worth Hotel was at 7th and Main, El Centro. It was built in 1915 and burned down in 1962.
