Thad Brown (left) and J. P. Filkas (right) hold a package with its contents arranged on a flat surface.
Different photographs taken on the same occasion appear with the article, “Fake Bomb Sent to M’Adoo Causes Downtown Furor,” Los Angeles Times, 25 Jul 1934: 1.
A suspicious package was sent to William Gibbs McAdoo, junior Senator, at the Trans-America Building on July 24, 1934. It was moved to a vacant lot near 2nd and Flower streets by Det. Lt. Thad F. Brown and Det. Lt. Joe P. Filkas, where they discovered it was harmless though “it certainly looked genuine.”
