This photograph appears in a small photo spread titled, "Off for Great Adventure in Lands of Ice and Snow," Los Angeles Times, 11 Oct. 1928: A1
A wharf in the Los Angeles Harbor enters frame from the bottom edge at left and stretches back towards center. Near camera, people walk along the pier. Farther back, they form a crowd in front of and alongside the Norwegian ship, C. A. Larsen. The C. A. Larsen enters frame from the left and extends across the image. It is moored at the dock with its starboard side facing camera. Flags on the ship and flags over the wharf wave in the breeze. At right, a portion of dock extends towards the right. More people gather along this portion of the wharf. In the distance at right, a tugboat pulls the C. A. Larsen from its berth.
This photograph appears with the articles, "COMMANDER BYRD SAILS FOR FROZEN ANTARCTIC: Thousands Cheer as All-American Soldiers of Science Depart; Last Word Sent by 'Times'," and "Flags Flutter and Whistles Toot Farewell," Los Angeles Times, 11 Oct. 1928: A1
