Workers carry a sheep up a set of steps and towards a cargo hold on the whaler, C. A. Larsen. The side of the C. A. Larsen enters frame at left and extends back towards the right, occupying the majority of the image. At center, a staircase rises along the side of the ship. Towards the base of the stairs, 2 workers carry a sheep up the steps. At the top of the stairs a few more workers stand on the landing and look down towards the approaching sheep. Below them and standing on the dock are 2 press photographers. They stand behind their cameras and tripods which are aimed towards camera.
Text from accompanying press release: Watch Your Credit__________"P & A Photos" LA 15287---------(Los Angeles Bureau) Byrd's Expedition Ship Ready to Sail. The C. A. There was 10,000 tons of whaling and explorers' supplies put aboard, for the two expeditions, that of the Byrd party and the Ross Sea Whaling Company, of which the 18,000 ton factory ship is the chief unit. 47,500 barrels of fuel oil was loaded, and also seventy five head of sheep and several milch cows for the whalers and a large consignment of last minute stores for the Byrd expedition.
