Related to the article, "CIVIC CENTER LINK OPENED: North Spring Street Scene of Colorful Ceremony Federal, State, County and City Officials Present Several Hundred in Crowd Viewing Proceedings," Los Angeles Times, 9 Jul. 1932: A2. Los Angeles Mayor John C. Porter and Mexican community leader Consuela Castillo de Bonzo (owner of La Golondrina restaurant on Olvera Street) stand side-by-side, with a procession of musicians and children behind them. Porter holds a pair of scissors while Bonzo looks toward him and holds the American flag with a ribbon attached. This photograph was taken on July 8, 1932 when Mayor John C. Porter cut the ribbon at the formal opening of a completed section of Spring Street that runs through the Civic Center between Temple Street and Sunset Boulevard (now Cesar Chavez Avenue). This photograph is very similar to another one of Mayor John C. Porter and Consuela Castillo de Bonzo captioned "New Downtown-Area Thoroughfare Dedicated," Los Angeles Times, 9 Jul. 1932: A2. Text from negative sleeve: Consuelo de Bonzo & Mayor John C. Porter. Handwritten on negative: L+R--Consuelo Bonzo--& Mayor Porter.
