Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Related to several stories in the Los Angeles Times regarding the Emerson/Sewell divorce trial from January to March 1935. Everett P. "Red" Davis sits in a wooden chair. He wears a three piece suit. His left leg is crossed over his right, and his elbows rest on the chairs arms, hands crossed, resting on his left thigh. He holds a cigarette in his left hand. He is seated facing forward, but is glancing off to his right. Walter Emerson sued his wife Jane Scholtz Emerson for divorce, regarding her affair with Barton Sewell. Jane Scholtz Emerson countersued her husband regarding his affair with Leah Clampitt Sewell. An alleged spouse swapping occurred in November 1934, where Everett Davis was present at the party, a "fifth wheel," per se. He was an investigator for District Attorney Fitts. Text on negative sleeve: Davis, "Red" ; Emerson Case Handwritten on negative: "Red" Davis
