View of automobiles half-submerged in flood debris outside of the Bohemian Gardens nightclub on Mission Road, just north of the Los Angeles County General Hospital (at 1200 N. State St). The cars are trapped in stone-encrusted mud; a pile of lumber is in the foreground and a high wall is in the background. This local flooding was caused by the failure of an old reservoir above Bohemian Gardens, which released a great body of water into the parking lot. The heaviest rainstorm in a 24 hour period in the history of the local United States Weather Bureau dropped 8.27 inches of water on December 31, 1933 to January 1, 1934, resulting in flooding and landslides throughout Los Angeles.
