Text from newspaper caption: Scene on Hall-Beckley Channel yesterday, below Foothill Boulevard and east of Ocean View, when huge steam shovel began deepening and widening of the channel. This marked the first actual construction work under the La Crescenta Valley program of permanent flood control. Shown viewing the start of work are, left, Lorraine Geife [sic] and Helen Potts, of Montrose.
