Text from newspaper caption: Only partially does this picture convey an impression of the vast throng that swarmed over Bixby Park, Long Beach, as the Iowa Association sponsored the thirty-third annual picnic reunion of former residents of the Hawkeye State. The attendance was estimated at more than 100,000. This picture shows a section of the crowd while Gov. Merriam was talking. Among the 100,000 former residents of Iowa who jammed Bixby Park were 500 couples comprising the Golden Wedding Club, some of whom are shown celebrating with old fashioned dances. Text from negative sleeve: Iowa Picnic, Bixby Park, Long Beach. 8-10-35. [stamped:] Aug 22 1935.
