Carl von Moltke was covered in the Los Angeles Times for his criminal activities, including burglary and check forgery between 1931-1940. In newspaper accounts, he also appears as: Carl von Morrison, Carl von Stoheim, Eugene Joseph Carl von Moltke Huitfelt, and Jean Carl von Moltke. He claimed to be a Count descended from General Helmuth von Moltke, a German Field Marshall.
