A photograph of the affidavit of Joseph Stalin relinquishing his share of Leon Grant McBurney's inheritance. It is in a protective sleeve, and a bare hand holds it at the top, and a gloved hand holds it at the bottom.

On December 26, 1933, Leon Grant McBurney died and according to his will, he left $1000 to Joseph Stalin and President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and $1 to each of his children. Roosevelt and Stalin were contacted and asked to relinquish their claims so the children could get the money, which they both did.

Text on document: IN THE SUPERIOR COURT OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA IN AND FOR THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES. In the Matter of the Estate of LEON GRANT MCBURNEY, Deceased. NO. 140,526 VOLUNTARY ASSIGNMENT. Comes now JOSEPH STALIN, legatee in the purported Last Will and Testament of LEON GRANT MCBURNEY, deceased, and hereby conveys, assigns, transfers and sets over unto ESTHER LILLIAN DENNISON, AUGUSTA McBURNEY JENSEN, ERVAY McBURNEY, MAY McBURNEY ROSS, ELDRED McBURNEY, JEANNETTE McBURNEY DUNBAR and CLOVA MARIA McBURNEY in equal parts, share and share alike, all of my right, title and interest in and to the estate of LEON GRANT McBURNEY, deceased, and more particularly that legacy of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) bequeathed to me under and by the terms of the said purported Last Will and Testament of said LEON GRANT McBURNEY, deceased.
