California Governor Frank Merriam standing at a banquet table and speaking in front of a microphone. To the right wearing a pinstripe suit and holding a utensil is Irving Thalberg. Many unidentified men are seated at the same table as Governor Merriam and Thalberg, as well as at tables in the background. Unidentified servers are at some tables. This photograph was probably taken at the Biltmore Bowl on July 1, 1935 when Governor Merriam gave an address at the 72nd annual convention of the Grand Lodge, District No. 4, B'nai B'rith. The other speakers included Thalberg, Eddie Cantor, Carl Laemmle, Samuel Briskin, and United States District Judge Harry Hollzer. Handwritten on negative: Gov. Merriam, 7/2/35, 130.
