Stevens was an ex-Los Angeles policeman and a wanted fugitive for the murder of Mike Mucich in 1921. He was recaptured in Sacramento on April 11, 1935. He was found guilty and sentenced to death, but his sentence was later commuted to a life sentence by Governor Merriam. He was paroled in 1949. Captain Bert Wallis (left), Detective Lieutenant Miles H. Ledbetter (center), and Charles P. Stevens sit in front of a desk. The desk has wire inboxes with stacks of paper in them.
