L.D. Smith's garden (3940 South St. Andrews Place) is surrounded by a cement wall covered in adornments such as jewels, bottles, broken glass, teapot lids, and other miscellaneous objects. Smith was an occupational contractor in the cement and brick industry.
A small house made out of stones with a slanted roof and open door sits in the corner of the garden against high walls with stones arranged in patterns. There are multiple types of cacti planted on either side of a short stepping path.
Photograph appears with the article, "Confessions of a Garden Wall," Los Angeles Times, 23 June 1935: H19.
