Portrait of Alfred L. Wilkes, dentist, who drowned when his boat overturned while he was sailing with his son, Huston (Barney) Wilkes, from San Pedro to Santa Catalina Island. Huston was rescued the next morning after clinging to both the boat and his father's body for many hours.
