Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Related to several articles covering the murder of Melba Groves and the trial of F. Raymond Groves, from October 3, 1934 to October 3, 1935. On October 1934, Francis Raymond Groves was drunk and argued with his wife, Melba Frances Groves, and then shot her to death. He was found guilty of first degree murder (later reduced to second degree murder) in January 1935 and incarcerated at San Quentin. Richard Cantillon, attorney, assists F. Raymond Groves in putting on his suit jacket. Three empty coathangers hang on a rack above their heads, against a brick wall. A typewriter is behind Cantillon. Handwritten on negative sleeve: 1433.
