The Schayers are some of the hosts of the cruise on their boat Cheerio II.
Commodore Schayer wears a sailor's uniform standing with his wife against the rail of the ship on one side while Miss Martan links her arm through Mr. Schayer's on the other side, sitting on the rail.

Text from newspaper caption: Commodore Richard Schayer of the Catalina Island Yacht Club, Mrs. Schayer and Miss Anita Martan were among the merrymakers at the Newport Yacht Club ball last week-end. The Schayers this week-end are hosts to hundreds of yachting parties at the Catalina Isthmus for the annual Commodore's cruise in which all Southland clubs joined.
