It was a matter of he-said, she-said during Maurice Kusell's divorce hearing from his wife Jayne Manners regarding information about the five-year-old disappearance of Supreme Court Justice Joseph F. Crater, the couple steadfastly supporting their two different stories regarding the Crater disappearance.
Blayney Matthews sits at a desk with an open pad of paper in front of him. Manners and Kusell sit and stand, respectively, on either side of him, either looking at Matthews' face or what he is writing. Dressed in a white suit Milton Golden stands behind Matthews, also watching what he is writing.
Photograph appears with the article, "Crater Case Tale Denied," Los Angeles Times, 11 Sep 1935: A8.
Text from newspaper caption: Jayne Manners, actress, denies she ever told her estranged husband, Maurice L. Kusell, left, that she knew about the disappearance case of Justice Crater of New York, when examined by Special Investigator Blayney Matthews of the District Attorney's office yesterday for New York authorities. Her husband insists she did. Attorney Milton Golden looks on.
