Von Brieson survived a September 8, 1935 car accident on the Roosevelt Highway in which film choreographer Busby Berkeley was at fault. Von Brieson's husband William Von Brieson, sister Dorothea "Peggy" Daley, and mother-in-law Ada Von Brieson died as a result of the accident, and Berkeley went on trial for second-degree murder for their deaths in December 1935.
