Miller (left.) former Pomona College student, was made a deacon of the Episcopal Church yesterday. Bishop Gooden (center.) performed the ceremony and Rev. Ray O. Miller (righter.) the young man's father, preached the ordination sermon [Los Angeles Times, 9 Sept. 1935: A5] From left to right, Rev. Randolph Crump Miller, Bishop Robert Burton Gooden, and Rector Ray Oakley Miller; Gooden is making a "thumbs up" sign. All are in robes and standing in front of a cross and a curtain. To the right is a candlestick. This photograph was taken on September 8, 1935 in St. James' Church, where Randolph Crump Miller was ordained a deacon by Bishop Gooden; Miller's father and rector of St. James' Church, Ray Oakley Miller, preached the ordination sermon.
