But when she laid more eggs and stopped sitting on them Mrs. Wedemeyer brought in a female canary to do the job for the bullfinch. Photograph appears with the article, "Mama Canary Raises Sets of Bullfinches," Los Angeles Times, 03 Aug 1935: A5. Mrs. Wedemeyer wears a dress and pearls as she holds in her hands a nest with two small baby birds with open mouths. Text from negative sleeve: 2042 - Mrs. Edna Wedemeyer of South Pasadena with baby bullfinch. Raises bullfinches. 7-30-35 [stamped:] Sep 13 1935 Handwritten on negative: Edna Wedemeyer 7-30-35 Text from newspaper caption: If a canary hatches bullfinches, that's news. Mrs. Edna Wedemeyer of 511 El Centro street, South Pasadena, has succeeded in accomplishing this. Of course, a lady bullfinch laid the eggs, but it required the patience and perseverance of a canary to complete the hatching.
