Text from newspaper caption: Senorita Evangeline Melendrez, the Betsy Ross of Olvera street, is repairing the Mexican national flag in preparation for the gay fiestas to be held throughout the city this month in observance of Mexico's independence. Publio Melendrez is telling her of the plans being made for this week's one hundred and fifty-fourth anniversary of Los Angeles' founding. On the wall, top right, is a picture of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, father of Mexican national independence.
