Los Angeles Times, 2 Sep. 1935: A1. View of James Reid, police officer, standing in hat, collared shirt, tie, jacket, pants, shoes, examining acetylene equipment. The equipment was found in a tunnel beneath the Farmers and Merchants Bank in Watts. Workers discovered the tunnel when replacing the flooring in the bank and immediately summoned the police. Indications show the diggings had been abandoned along with the vault equipment, two or three years ago. The Farmers and Merchants Bank of Watts has no connection with the Farmers and Merchants National Bank of Los Angeles. Text from negative sleeve: 2205, Officer James Reid, Bank job, [stamped:] Sep 26 Text from newspaper caption: Jailor James Reid is shown inspecting acetylene torch equipment abandoned by bank robbers in tunnel beneath bank. Corrosion indicated the implements were abandoned two or three years ago. Handwritten on negative: Officer James Reid
