Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. A fire engulfs one of many oil wells in an oil field in what is most likely Santa Fe Springs. Several dozen wells dot the landscape, as well as machinery, smoke stacks, pipes, and countless telephone wires and their towers. Also included in this image are pedestrians: firemen and workmen trying to attack the blaze. Several automobiles are parked near the fire. Puddles of water are located around the fire, which suggests the firemen and workers attempted to put out the fire with hoses.
