The event was planned in appreciation of the volunteer efforts of the wives of U.S. naval officers.After husband John G. Bullock's death, Louise Bullock later married judge, Russ Avery. Previous to Bullock, she had married Hugh Wallace. Text from newspaper caption: Mmes. John Gillespie Bullock, Harris Laning, William D. Leahy and Charles Sheward Crail were among the prominent society matrons at the luncheon Thursday afternoon at the Ambassador honoring wives of officers of the United States Fleet. Mrs. Bullock was chairman of the committee of hostesses and Mrs. Crail, vice-chairman. Mrs. Laning is the wife of Admiral Laning and Mrs. Leahy, wife of Vice-Admiral Leahy. The luncheon was sponsored by the Women's Community Service Auxiliary of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce.
